Questions about optic neuritis, blurry vision, and color changes

Is this optic neuritis, or could it be something else — migraine, eye strain, another optic-nerve condition?
Will my vision come back — how much, and how long does it usually take?
Will colors look washed out forever, or does that come back too?
Should I get IV steroids — does that change how much I recover, or just speed it up? What are the trade-offs?
Should I see a neuro-ophthalmologist, not just a regular eye doctor?
Could heat, exercise, or a hot shower make my vision blurry again? Is that doing more damage or just old damage showing up?
