The number of people with multiple sclerosis (MS) is increasing rapidly in Razavi Khorasan, especially among women.
In Razavi Khorasan, there are over 4,700 people with MS, and most of them (78%) are women. Many patients are young adults, with most diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 39. The number of new MS cases has been growing steadily, especially in women, suggesting that MS is becoming more common in the area. By 2021, about 72 out of every 100,000 people in the province had MS, which is much higher than in previous years. This means that more people are facing the challenges of living with MS, and it's important to understand and address these needs.
MS patients and their caregivers should pay attention to these findings because they highlight the growing number of people affected by MS in their community. Increased prevalence may mean that support systems, healthcare services, and resources need to expand to help those struggling with MS. Young adults, especially women, are particularly affected, which could change how families plan for education and careers. Awareness of this trend can lead to better resources and support for managing symptoms and preventing complications. Overall, everyone involved in MS care can benefit from understanding this rising trend to improve daily life and care routines.
This study is focused on only one province in Iran, so the results may not apply to all areas. The reasons behind the increase in MS cases are not fully understood, which means more research is needed. Patients and caregivers should keep in mind that while the number of cases is rising, advancements in treatment and care are also evolving.

Read MoreWhether you’ve recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) or are seeking to broaden your understanding of this complex, neurodegenerative disease, navigating the latest research can feel overwhelming. Studies published in respected medical journals like Multiple sclerosis and related disorders often range from early-stage, exploratory work to advanced clinical trials. These evidence-based findings help shape new disease-modifying therapies, guide symptom management techniques, and deepen our knowledge of MS progression.
However, not all research is created equal. Some clinical research studies may have smaller sample sizes, evolving methodologies, or limitations that warrant careful interpretation. For a more comprehensive, accurate understanding, we recommend reviewing the original source material—accessible via the More Details section above—and consulting with healthcare professionals who specialize in MS care.
By presenting a wide range of MS-focused studies—spanning cutting-edge treatments, emerging therapies, and established best practices—we aim to empower patients, caregivers, and clinicians to stay informed and make well-informed decisions when managing Multiple Sclerosis.
