Evoked potentials are tests that measure how quickly your nerves carry signals to your brain in response to what you see, hear, or feel. Small sensors are placed on the scalp while you look at a screen, listen to sounds, or receive light pulses on the skin. Slower signals can be a sign of nerve damage.
These tests can pick up nerve problems that are too subtle to notice on their own. They are painless and sometimes help fill in the picture when diagnosis is uncertain.
