Escalation Therapy

What it is

Escalation therapy is a treatment approach where a person starts on a lower-intensity DMT and switches to a stronger one if MS stays active. The idea is to match the medication to how the disease is behaving over time. The opposite approach, starting with a high-efficacy DMT right away, is sometimes called early aggressive treatment.

Why it matters for you

Knowing the word for this strategy helps you understand why your care team might suggest one path or another. It is a style of decision making, not a single drug.
